Kartemquin opposes H.R. 9495, back for a second vote this week

Kartemquin opposes H.R. 9495, back for a second vote this week – and warns against threats to constitutionally protected speech and due process. This bill, co-sponsored by Illinois’ very own Bradley Scott Schneider (D-10), serves up serious concerns for the rights of nonprofit organizations to support or make public statements of dissent. The bill contains provisions that are widely supported (e.g. tax relief for citizens held hostage overseas), but includes dangerous provisions that give the Executive Branch unilateral power to revoke an organization’s tax exempt status without having to produce evidence justifying the decision. Another vote is scheduled for this week after failing to pass with the required ⅔ majority. Read more here and take action.
