Thuy Tran

Thuy is a cultural strategist who specializes in the building of nonprofit institutions, with particular expertise in film and media. She is an advocate for the arts as a catalyst to transform lives and communities. Her goal is to strengthen nonprofits so they have greater and more meaningful impact.

Her work encompasses three core areas—strategy (strategic planning, executive hiring, change management), communications (branding, messaging, communications strategy), and culture (leadership training).

Thuy is known for working with cultural institutions in times of transition. Adept at partnering with boards, leadership, and staff, her clients have included American Documentary, Catapult Film Fund, Chicken & Egg Pictures, Concordia Studio, International Documentary Association, Points North Institute, and SFFILM, amongst others. Thuy has served as an advisor, mentor, and/or jury member for the Sundance Institute, IFP, Tribeca Film Institute, and SXSW.

Prior to starting her consulting practice, Thuy served as the Senior Program Officer at United States Artists, held curatorial and publishing positions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and traveled the country as part of former Vice President Al Gore’s Advance staff.

Born in Vietnam and raised in Los Angeles, Thuy received her BA from Scripps College in Claremont and her MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.
